Lehman shares would make a better investment - I have just had the misfortune to purchase a lacie drive. After going through the very badly documented set-up procedure, I managed to get it working. The drive was noisy and slow with poor connectivity response times. The drive then failed, I sent it back to be repaired (took nearly a month) and now it has been returned in working condition minus all of my backups.Utter garbage, avoid at all costs.Terrible customer services too!

Review on LaCIE Mobile Disk 160GB - Fantastic USB External hard drive, fast transfers, simpleGreat software includedI recommend this!

Very good USB2 Mobile Hard Drive. - This will be the fourth LaCie hard drive I ve bought, all quality builds with all the cables needed. This drive comes with USB power adaptor for low powered USB ports and a mini USB2 cable. You ll need to reformat the drive before using it.A few elements put this above other USB2 Mobile drives. It s small (slightly bigger than the WD passport drive, but only just). It works on low power USB2 out of the box. A WD passport needs a special cable which is not supplied. Still, I d not recommend it for G4 15 inch Powerbooks. Cables are short and the two USB ports are on either side of the laptop. You re still better off with a firewire drive, which I find to be quicker. The Intel Macbook thankfully has proper USB2 ports, only needing one cable to work. The drive obviously isn t very fast, but will work for most purposes. It backed up about 12GB from Time Machine in half an hour, but you should look to faster drives for video work. The construction of the Lacie drive is very good, its top case is aluminium screwed to a bottom plastic case. It feels sturdy and well built. It also allows you to open it up. I use a Macbook and using the Lacie as backup, you can clone your laptop. If the laptop fails, all you need to do is unscrew the Lacie and put the 2.5 drive straight into the Macbook. £50 for a 160GB is a good deal too.It s only real defect is the very bright blue LED which you could use as a torch. Very annoying and it s flickering is an irritating distraction, but it s easily covered with duct tape.

Lacie portable hard drive 160gb - I brought this yesterday at staples, as I had a voucher meaning it cost be £44.99..bargain. The HDD is very portable, fits into your hand easily, nice and sleek, well built - just like the picture. It s powered via the USB, however if you have a low powered USB bus, then the Lacie comes with another cable, which you connect to another USB which means you can run it. I didn t need this with my laptop, and it works perfectly fine with one USB used, so I m a happy bunny.I brought this as I m an Engineering student, who brought a desktop PC as I wanted to run student versions of AutoCAD and Solidworks but no laptop s except the expensive ones could run it, but now 2 years on, laptops have come a long way, and they are cheaper too, so I needed to transfer all my documents/pdfs/dwg s and some music (15gb worth) over to my new laptop, to use at uni. Transfer rate is good, took about half and hour to transfer 10gb, maybe it sounds a bit slow, but really you think how much 10 gigabytes is, then maybe its not that bad, its really good if you want to transfer pdf s and documents like that. I would recommend this, as its small and light and powered by one USB its really portable. Only comes with one years warranty and with other HDD s you get two years but for the money you can t really argue.Obviously I ve used it with my other PC which runs windows XP, my laptop runs Vista and with either computer you don t need discs or anything to set it up as its all plug and play :)I haven t dropped it, tbh if your going to drop stuff like this then maybe you should super-glue it to your desk, or buy a protective case..accidents happen, as I said it feels sleek and well built, dropping it a couple of times (probably) wouldn t be so bad, just don t throw it around ,).
