
Great bit of kit - I have had two previous archos 504 and 605 and this is by far the best. The screen is excellent, very easy when uploading files use it in pc hard drive mode just drag and drop you videos, music files or pictures, if i were you dont use windows media to sync it, I aslo have the DVR Station which i use to record off the TV and works very well. the battery life is about 6 hours video and about 20 hours music, the only negative is that you dont get a charger with it, you have to use the usb cable to charge it which takes for ever, i bought a mini dock that charges it in about two hours.Please dont let other reviews put you off i love it you cant go wrong. if you want to watch your films on the go its the best on the market, it play loads of video formats unlike the ipod. lovely big screen.
Great Idea - Terrible Product & Poor Support - Avoid - On paper its perfect - the reality is a massive disappointment and I am returning mine. The battery life is very poor, in fact if you have it on and USB connected it will still deplete the batteryWireless connectivity drops the whole time / can t connectAlbum art doesn t display for Windows Media Sync Windows Media sync including videos took nearly two days - my Creative Zen took about 1 hour. Archos Support were terrible - telling me to check Windows media settings for device problems and taking 2 days to respond. Recorded TV from Windows Media center converts and sync s but doesn t show up in the UI.The UI is awful compared to other manufacturers (Creative / Apple) and scrolling is very hard. I have been through three versions of firmware in 2 weeks. It should be great. It s not. Save your money.
If you have patience, purchase this item and hope you don t get sent a lemon! - 15.12.08 - Further to my previous posting below, I should add that I am now having problems with time gaining by 15 minutes, despite setting it manually. Of course, this totally messes up any recordings you have set via the TV Scheduler. I emailed Archos last night and I just got a very brief email this morning saying we re working on the problem ! Doesn t bode very well. Also, the audio and video seem to be out of sync, although from what I can judge, this is only when you re recording something from the TV and watching it at the same time - when you watch it on the Archos, it seems to be OK. I m in two minds as to whether to keep this unit or not but judging by my own experience and other reviewers comments, I think it may be going back to QVC!I got this last Friday (5th December) and managed, after about 4 hours, to get it all set up and connected to my TV and Sky box and set up the right codes etc... I connected it to my home wifi and it worked. However, subsequently, it s started flashing on and off and freezes on certain requests, specifically on looking at the plugins, it wold not allow me to quit so I had to force a shut down! Also, it feels like the paint is coming off - at least, there is a wet feeling at the top of the unit and it hasn t been anywhere near liquid. It also gets very hot after a short time.For what it offers, it s a good unit - that is to say, if you don t get a duff one! I have to admit that I didn t purchase this from Amazon so don t let this comment put you off purchasing from Amazon - I bought mine from another on-line store who shall remain nameless as I have no quibble with them at all, rather the manufacturers! I ve had the AV405, the 605 and one of the much older ones (don t remember the model number) and they ve all been sent back as faulty as they ve either frozen on use, flashed on and off or just not been what was suggested! Also, the customer support (or should that be lack of customer support ) is appalling - once Archos have your money, they don t seem to care at all if their units go wrong and if you email them, they will give you a one sentence answer (after several days of waiting) and more than likely will not answer the question you were asking anyway. They seem to just use the perhaps it s faulty and you should send it back to where you bought it or perhaps you didn t follow the set up instructions ...... I rang Archos yesterday (a London number but you go through to an office in France) and they are next to useless because a) they can t understand your query and b) as I said previously, they don t care once they ve got your money!!!! Purchase with caution - either that or a degree in information technology!!!!
They just keep getting better!! - The Archos 5 is just so much improved it s hard to fine any fault at all. All Archos products are wonderful but this time they have outdone themselves. A Superb entertainment machine and the screen is so good I watch full movies rather than sit in fron of the TV, As Archos always have said think snmaller. Just wonderful.
